Garden Progress

Isn't he cute? Our biggest Hungarian Wax Pepper, so far. Now I just have to find out how big he is supposed to be before we harvest him. Cuz I am a master gardener like that.

The newest bed, full of vining plants. Watermelon, vine tomatoes, cucumbers and cantaloupe. The pumpkins didn't fit, so we either need to build another 1x4 bed or just plant them in the back and see what happens. Sometime next week we will put a trellis up and start training the vines.

Yeah, I know I didn't have to section each square for the onions, but if you know me in real life you totally know why I did. I can't help it. I am this close to it being an illness. Ethan planted the onions without the anal-retentive strings. The other two are red and yellow (maybe orange?) peppers.

The patio 'maters. Salmonella free since 2008.

Cauliflower and a mystery plant that we think is a pepper. The funny thing is, I don't remember buying it and there was no id tag. The leaves look kind of like pepper leaves, so we will see.

The small ones are death peppers (habanero) the tall are Hungarian wax.

Rain barrel #1. There are four feeder gold fish - who apparently are all named Bob - swimming around in there. Not coincidently, rain barrel #2 has four feeder goldfish named Bob as well. The goldfish will eat the mosquito larvae, so no West Nile for us thankyouverymuch.

The herb garden... which looks pretty pathetic in this picture. It is right outside the kitchen door (as all good herb gardens should be) so will get plenty of use. Which is why it looks pathetic. I have already harvested lots of basil.

I bought four geranium plants from a girl at 4-H. She had them for over a month, because I moved and forgot to tell her (oops!) and didn't water them once the whole stinkin' month. They felt bad so they tossed another almost dead one in with my order. Here is my feeble attempt to save them. Cram them all into a hanging basket and see what happens.

Now that the majority of the planting is done, maybe I will work on getting some kitchy garden accoutremon, because if there is one thing I love, it is kitch.

You really got on the ball with the raised beds and everything looks great! We have been getting squash for a couple of weeks, but everything else is still in the baby stage. Can't wait for fresh tomatoes, green beans, and cucumbers, and cantaloupe and watermelon. :)

Christine-
Thanks! It took a lot of work but I am hoping that it will be worth it!

I am so glad it is a pepper plant. Now I can write pepper on the stick instead of just a big ?

How the heck do I cut it back? Does that mean take all of the dead parts off?

Montgomery -
Thanks! I wish I didn't have to start so late. I want to start picking stuff soon!

I can't wait for the stuff to come in. I really, really, really can't wait!

Cut off all the dead stuff and then some. It will look pretty sad. But will come back quickly even nicer.
